What are you Thinking About?
…Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us… (Ephesians 3:20)
Expectations (excerpts from World Ministry Fellowship)
Expectations are powerful things. They affect how we think, how we act, and how we interact with the world around us. Expectations affect every aspect of our lives, and flow naturally from what we believe about our current reality. These beliefs come from what we have come to understand about how things work, and are greatly influenced by our past experiences and teachings.
Sometimes, when presented with new information, our expectations change. The first time I ever experienced the manifest presence of God changed my expectations and beliefs forever. I had not been taught this. It was new to me. In fact, I had been taught that this type of thing had passed away. That experience presented me with new information, greatly adjusted my perception of God’s reality, and changed my expectations accordingly.
When talking about Biblical or spiritual issues, it is important to be open to new information – a fresh revelation of what God intends for us to receive through Christ. Just because we have not experienced something does not mean it is not available to us. Just because some religious leader told us what he thought was true does not make it true. Their expectation of God may have been limited by what they had been taught.
Listen to the heart of the Apostle Paul: [I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people), and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe. (Ephesians 1:17-19, Amplified Bible)
We keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give all of you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. That is what these devotionals are all about. We pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know:
The hope to which he has called you
The riches of his glorious inheritance in you
His incomparably great power that is in you
What is your hope? What are you expecting from God’s incomparably great power today? We need to be looking to God for a fresh revelation; newly updated information about what God would like to do in our midst; and fresh bread from God’s bountiful table made just for us. But, we must cooperate! We must be open to a new thing!
Inspect your expectations. Make sure you’re ready to hear and receive from God today. He wants to talk to you. His mercies are new every morning!
